Box Score GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo senior forward Kayla DeAngelis totaled two goals and an assist to break the program's all-time scoring record and lead the Knights to a 6-0 shutout of visiting Oswego, Saturday, in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) field hockey play.
DeAngelis' five points give her 105 (42 goals, 22 assists) over the last four seasons, surpassing the 104 points (34 goals, 36 assists) Michelle Milkovich '11 totaled from 2007-10.
"I'm happy with the way we came out and and got another conference win today," said head coach Jess Seren. "It was also a great way to honor the eight seniors we celebrated during our senior ceremony."
Seniors DeAngelis, Katie Farley, Margaret Gerardi, Kerry Hosford, Alyssa Smith, Abby Klutts, Bridget McGovern, and Kim Sherman were honored at halftime for their service to the program for the last four years.
First-year back Liz Doherty put the Knights on the board in the 14th minute, taking a pass from Gerardi from the right side and scoring on a six-yard shot. Less than two minutes later, McGovern converted a shot off a penalty corner at the top of the circle, assisted by Hosford, to make it a 2-0 lead.
DeAngelis got into the action with a goal off an assist from Farley in the 22nd minute, before Hosford tallied her own goal off a pass from DeAngelis from close range after a scramble that followed a penalty corner in the 24th minute as the Knights took a 4-0 lead into halftime.
In the second half, sophomore forward Sarah Malinak broke free for a one-on-one opporunity with Oswego goalkeeper Priscilla Paulose and scored off a rebound of her own blocked shot to make it 5-0 in the 50th minute.
DeAngelis' historic tally came in the 56th minute on a penalty stroke, as she lifted a shot over Paulose into the top left corner of the goal for the final goal of the game.
The Knights (7-5, 4-0 SUNYAC) return to action with two home matches next week. Following a Tuesday (Oct. 15) game opposite Houghton at 4:00 p.m., Geneseo will host Cortland on Saturday (Oct. 19) in a clash of the final two unbeaten SUNYAC teams.
