Field Hockey Falls To No. 25 Ithaca, 2-1

GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo field hockey team dropped a tight one at home on Saturday, falling 2-1 to Ithaca College at College Stadium. The Knights fall to 3-2 on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Geneseo came out fast, generating four penalty corners and several early scoring chances before breaking through midway through the first quarter, as Kyra Giannelli scored her first goal of the season off a feed from Halle Senfield to give the Knights a 1-0 lead.
  • Ithaca answered right back a minute later, tying the game at 1-1.
  • The visitors took their first lead of the game late in the second quarter on a goal off a pair of penalty corners, making it 2-1.
  • Neither team found the net over the final 35-plus minutes, despite Geneseo holding a wide edge in penalty corners in the fourth quarter and generating a handful of late looks, as Ithaca's defense held on to close out the win.

QUICK FACTS:

  • Bridget Schafer turned in a strong performance in goal for Geneseo, finishing with eight saves on 10 shots on goal.
  • Aubree Wenner and Ella Greico each led Geneseo with two shots, while Ava Harman paced the team with three.
  • Geneseo out-shot Ithaca 13-8 overall but was outshot in shots on goal, 10-6.
