Field Hockey Defeats Skidmore, 4-1

GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo field hockey team used a three-goal second half to pull away from Skidmore College on Saturday afternoon, picking up a 4-1 road win in Saratoga Springs. The Knights improve to 2-0 on the young season.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Skidmore struck first, with Ella Costa redirecting home a double-touched shot off a feed from Colby Paul just under 10 minutes into the game to give the Thoroughbreds an early 1-0 lead.
  • Geneseo answered midway through the second quarter, as Aubree Wenner ripped in a one-bounce turnaround shot to even the score at 1-1 heading into the half.
  • The Knights took control in the third quarter, when Ella Greico tapped in a pass across the circle from Halle Senfield to put Geneseo ahead 2-1.
  • Geneseo kept the pressure on in the fourth, as Greico struck again — this time off a rebound set up by Ava Harman — to push the lead to 3-1. Harman then added an insurance goal of her own late in the frame, chasing down a loose ball off a rebound to make it 4-1 and put the game away.
  • The Geneseo defense held Skidmore off the board over the final three quarters, despite the Thoroughbreds holding a wide edge in penalty corners (14-4) for the game.

QUICK FACTS:

  • Greico led the way offensively with two goals, while Wenner and Harman each scored once and Harman also added an assist.
  • Bridget Schafer earned the win in goal with six saves.
  • Geneseo out-scored Skidmore 3-0 over the final two quarters after entering halftime tied at 1-1.
  • Geneseo and Skidmore dedicated the game to the "Live Like Liv" Foundation. The Live Like Liv Foundation (TLLLF) was created to honor the memory of Olivia and to continue her legacy of positivity that she brought into the world.
