SUNY Geneseo Intercollegiate Athletics Announces 2025 Sports Hall of Fame Class

GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation is pleased to announce the 2025 SUNY Geneseo Sports Hall of Fame class. The group will be honored at the annual Sports Hall of Fame induction ceremony slated for Saturday, December 6, 2025, on the campus of SUNY Geneseo.

The 2025 class includes the induction of five stalwarts from the men's lacrosse program: defender Mike McManus '76 (posthumous), attackman Mike Pizzuto '08, defender Phil Gardner '07, attackman Craig Lange '11 and goalie Dennis Costanza '10.

The heart of the Geneseo defense, McManus played with a unique intensity, combining a tough, physical and relentless style while taking on the opponents' top offensive player.  A native of Syracuse, New York and graduate of West Genesee High School, McManus aided the Knights to a record of 39-15 over four seasons. A 1975 USILA All-Conference selection, McManus led the Geneseo defense to back-to-back ECAC Upstate championships in 1974 and 1975 for Geneseo Hall of Fame Coach Paul Rose. His Hall of Fame nomination materials included nearly a dozen inspiring letters of support from his teammates, a true testament to his contributions on and off the field as a Geneseo Knight. McManus passed in 2017 at the age of 62 after battling cancer.

A 2008 Honorable Mention All-American and the current school record holder with 51 assists in 2008, Pizzuto aided the Knights to a record of 46-16 over his four seasons. The Amherst, New York product and Amherst High graduate was a three-time first team All-SUNYAC selection (2006, '07, '08) and guided Geneseo to four consecutive SUNYAC championship games, including the title-winning campaign in 2007 and participated in two NCAA Division III tournaments. Pizzuto combined 91 career goals with 92 career assists for 183 career points, which ranked third at the time of his graduation and remains fifth all-time behind Hall of Famers Don Litzelman and David Spennacchio, 2025 grad Jimmy Atkinson and fellow inductee Craig Lange.

A two-time first team All-SUNYAC selection after transferring from Sacred Heart, Gardner is the only player in Geneseo lacrosse history to earn a spot on the top three All-American teams on two occasions. The close defender was a third team All-America selection in 2006 and became Geneseo's initial first team All-American in 2007. The Syracuse, NY native and graduate of Corcoran High School led the Geneseo defense to a record of 22-8 over two seasons and paced defensemen with 49 groundballs in 2006 and 48 groundballs in 2007. He helped the Knights to the SUNYAC Championship in 2007 and participated in two NCAA Division III tournaments.

A native of Syracuse, New York, and a graduate of Christian Brothers Academy, Lange helped the Knights to a record of 42-16 over his four seasons, including three SUNYAC finals appearances. The 2008 SUNYAC Rookie of the Year was a three-time first team All-SUNYAC selection (2009, '10, '11) and earned a pair of honorable mention All-America awards (2010, '11).  He scored 99 career goals (5th at graduation, currently 7th) with 113 assists (3rd/3rd) for 212 points (3rd/4th). Lange is one of only 13 Geneseo men's lacrosse players to earn multiple All-America honors.

One of only three Geneseo student-athletes to be named a National Player of the Year, Costanza was tabbed Division III's best Goalie and a first team All-American in 2010 after earning honorable mention All-America in 2009. A Webster product and graduate of Webster Schroeder High School, Costanza holds the school record for winning percentage (.828), is third in career wins with 29 and earned first team All-SUNYAC in 2009 and 2010. He helped Geneseo to a record of 35-9 over three seasons after transferring from Monroe Community College, making 366 saves, which stands 11th all-time at Geneseo.

The event is open to the public. Ticket information will be released in late October.
