Stanat Scores Diving OT Game-Winner Against Ithaca

GENESEO, NY: The SUNY Geneseo men's lacrosse team came out with a huge overtime won against the Ithaca Bombers 8-7 this evening. Aksel Stanat made the diving goal to give Geneseo the win and move the team to 1-1 for the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Ryan Trebing struck first for the Knights early in the first, with an unassisted goal at 11:46. Ithaca tallied one of their own, but the Knights answered back with five minutes left. Alex Johansen made the spin move in front of the net, sending it down low to make it 2-1 at the end of the first.
  • Johansen extended the Knights lead to open the second quarter, ripping one from five yards out. Both teams traded goals through the rest of the half, with goals from Ryan Trebing and Ronnie Trebing and the knights went into halftime leading 5-4.
  • Geneseo tallied two more in the third, both coming from Jake Perinchief. He was able to walk it in and go far post for both his goals, keeping the Knights ahead 7-5 after three.
  • Ithaca tied the game at 7-7 in the fourth and send the teams into overtime. The Knights defense held strong through Ithaca's position in overtime, only allowing one shot before getting the ball back. Geneseo brought the ball down the field and Aksel Stanat called game, making a diving shot through traffic and the Knights win 8-7.
