BROCKPORT, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo women's outdoor track and field team won their first Empire 8 title on Saturday, posting 331 points, with Brockport in second at 149. The championship marks the Knights eighth-straight conference title and 17th overall.
Penelope Greene was named the Track Athlete of the Meet for her efforts, while
Jillian Ambler brought home Field Athlete of the Meet honors.
Payton Mehalick was named the Torchbearer Award winner for the highest cumulative GPA at the championship meet.
DAY TWO RECAP:
The Knights opened up the track events on day two with the team of Sam Pynn,
Brynn Mooney, Jill Ambler, and
Kayla Huba setting a meet and facility record in the 4x100 relay with a time of 47.38. They followed it up with four athletes placing in the top six in the 1500m, with
Sierra Doody leading the way at 4:39.29 in first place. Ambler added another 10 points for the Knights in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.51, while
Lanna Wandy and
Sophia Barclay also placed top-eight.
Janelle Eckl kept the record-setting ways going in the 800m, posting a meet record time of 2:12.27, while
Dakota Limbert was right behind her in second place. In both the 400m hurdles and the 200m races, Geneseo saw three runners in the top-eight for a combined 34 points between the two events. Geneseo was dominant in the 5000m, with the top five spots going to the Knights.
Penelope Greene led the way with a facility and meet record time of 16:39.34. The Knights closed out the track events for the day with the team ofÂ

Nicole Gretzinger,
Ava Bagley, and
Brynn Mooney setting a new meet record in the 4x400 relay with a time of 3:55.50.
In the field events, the Knights put up an impressive performance in the shot put, earning three of the top four spots.
Payton Mehalick won the event with a distance 12.85, while
Zoe Connor and
Lauren Jaklitsch took second and fourth, respectively.
Skyler Klimow added another first place finish in the discus with a distance of 38.58, and teammates
Ella Manellis and
Ashley Tubbs also finished top five to highlight the field performances on the day.

DAY ONE RECAP:
The SUNY Geneseo women's track and field team is in first place after day one of the Empire 8 Championships, posting 122 points through the eight events that have been scored.
The Knights most points came out of the 10,000m events, where they had five runners place in the top eight for 27 points.
Penelope Greene won the event with a meet record time of 38:13.69, while
Gabby McCarthy took second at 38:34.31. In the 3000m steeplechase, Geneseo swept the top three spots, with
Ann Brennan recording a meet and facility record time of 10:52.11, while
Jillian O'Rourke and
Isabel Marzec finished second and third, respectively.
Brynn Mooney added to the record setting performances, taking first in the 400m with a meet and facility record time of 55.21.
Nicole Gretzinger and
Isabella Lagios also placed top-five in the 400m to earn 20 total points for the Knights. Rounding out the track performances was the team ofÂ
Abbey Moose,
Ruth Weinmann,
Chloe Kirgan, and
Dakota Limbert in the 4x800 relay in fifth place.
In the field events,
Jillian Ambler placed first in the long jump with a distance of 5.90m, while
Janelle Eckl and
Lanna Wandy also earned top-five finishes. In the hammer throw,
Zoe Connor added 10 points for Geneseo by placing first with a distance of 51.48.
Skyler Klimow added a second place finish in the javelin at a distance of 37.51, while
Nicole Gretzinger took third in the pole vault.
