Women's Swimming and Diving Corie Holding

Women's Swimming & Diving Win 16th-Straight SUNYAC Title, 31st Overall

BUFFALO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo Women's Swimming and Diving team earned their 16th-straight State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) championship on Saturday at Erie Community College. The Knights have now won 31 SUNYAC titles in the program's history. The Knights also picked up multiple major awards from the championship meet with Alex Sotek being named Outstanding Swimmer of the Meet, Amaya DiGiovanni being named the Grace Mowatt Award winner, and the swimming coaching staff earning Swimming Coaching Staff of the Year.
 
Day One
Women's Swimming and Diving took on day one of the SUNYAC Championship today, competing in the 200 yard medley relay and the 800 yard freestyle relay.

In the 200 yard medley relay, Courtney Sorbello, Mackenzie Fischer, Alise Hale, and Alex Sotek took first place and set a conference record with a time of 1:42.82. In the 800 yard freestyle relay, the women took the top spot again, with swimmers Amaya DiGiovanni, Madison Sargent, Abby Funk and Hannah Brockman finishing at 7:41.06.  

Day Two
The women started strong in the 500-yard freestyle, with Abby Funk, Hannah Brockman, Madi Sargent, Emily McCord and Karly Bray placing second through fifth respectively. In the 200-yard IM, Mackenzie Fischer and Mallory Upcraft took the top two spots, touching the wall at 2:10.93 and 2:11.07.

In the 50-yard freestyle, freshman Alex Sotek crushed it, taking first overall and breaking the conference record with a time of 23.13. Amaya DiGiovanni took second, finishing .84 behind Sotek. In the 200-yard freestyle relay, Sotek, Digiovanni, Sargent and Fischer placed first with a time of 1:34.35.

Rounding out day two in the 1-meter dives, Alexandra Pucci-Schaefer, Lydia Benjamin, and Donna Clark took second, third and fourth place, respectively.

Madison Sargent came out hot in the 200-yard freestyle, placing first with a time of 1:53.15. Abby Funk, Hannah Brockman, and Emily McCord followed close behind, taking third, fourth and fifth. In the 100-yard backstroke, Courtney Sorbello took first, with Maya Marcyan taking third and Ashley Felber in fourth.
 
The 100-yard breaststroke saw a top-three finish from Geneseo with Mackenzie Fischer, Emily Thomas, and Jessica Gordon took first through third respectively. Junior Alise Hale finished first in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 55.58 and teammate Alex Sotek took second, finishing at 55.97. The 400-yard IM saw a second, fourth and fifth place finish from Karly Bray, Sinead Devaney, and Mallory Upcraft.
 
Geneseo finished day three on a great note by taking first in the 400-yard medley relay. Sorbello, Thomas, Hale and Sotek finished strong with an incredible time of 3:50.53.

Day Four
 

Starting out the final day of competition, Hanna Brockman took first in the 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 17:29.12, while Abby Funk took second. Geneseo had an incredible performance in the 200-yard backstroke, taking the top four spots. Sinead Devaney touched first at 2:09.03, followed by Courtney Sorbello, Maya Marcyan and Ashley Felber. We saw another top three finish in the 100-yard freestyle, with Alex Sotek taking first place.

Amaya Digiovanni and Madi Sargent came in second and third respectively. Emily Thomas finished first in the 200-yard breaststroke at 2:24.73. She was followed by Jessica Gordon who took second.

Junior Alise Hale finished in front in the 200-yard butterfly and Mallory Upcraft took second. Hale's time of 2:05.39 marked a new meet and conference record. In the women's 400-yard free relay, Geneseo took first, with Sotek, Digiovanni, Sargent and Fischer touching at 3:29.39. 

In diving, Donna Clark, Lydia Benjamin, and Alexandra Pucci-Schaefer took second, third and fourth, respectively.  Clark put up 433.55, Benjamin 425.50, and Pucci-Schaefer 401.75.
 
Geneseo secured the championship for the 16th year in the row, finishing with a total score of 1090.4. This is the women's 31st championship win in the program's history.
