WEBSTER, NY: The SUNY Geneseo women's swimming & diving team was crowned Empire 8 Champions this evening after an incredible 4-day performance by the Knights. Geneseo controlled the podium, totaling 1184.5 points for first place for their 12th straight conference title.
Alex Sotek and
Morgan Davey were named the Swimmer and Diver of the Meet, with Geneseo coaches Paul Dotterwiech,
Noah Farmer and Shaun Austin taking home the award for Coaching Staff of the Meet.
Erin Johannsen was named the 2026 Torchbearer, which honors the athlete with the highest cumulative GPA between the top two teams.
DAY 1:
Abby Funk,
Hannah Brockman and
Maura O'Donnell swept the podium in the 500-yard free, with Funk finishing on top with a time of 5:04.68, followed by Brockman 5:04.95 and O'Donnell at 5:13.90. The Knights matched the energy in the 200-yard IM, with
Chloe Marcyan leading the way in first, touching at 2:09.29, with teammate
Molly McGourty taking second with a time of 2:10.59. In the 50-yard free,
Alex Sotek led the way with an NCAA B cut qualifying time of 23.21, while
Erin Johannsen came in second, with her time of 23.77. The 400-yard medley relay team of
Maya Marcyan,
Emily Thomas,
Alex Sotek and
Erin Johannsen rounded out day one, with a time of 3:48.78, an NCAA B cut qualifying time.
DAY 2:
Abby Funk,
Hannah Brockman and
Thalia Marquez swept the podium for the Knights in the 200-yard free, with Funk leading with a time of 1:55.39, followed by Brockman and Marquez at 1:56.25 and 1:56.93.
Alex Sotek led the way in the 100-yard butterfly with her time of 56.28, with
Sibby Lowe close behind in second with a time of 58.02. In the 400-yard IM,
Chloe Marcyan landed in first place with her time of 4:35.53, out swimming her competitor by three seconds.
Morgan Davey was crowned the champion for the women's 1-meter dive, scoring 462.00 points over 11 dives, followed by
Lydia Benjamin in second with a score of 452.85. The 200-yard freestyle relay team had a huge finish for the Knights to wrap up day 2, with Sotek, Johannsen, Lowe and McCord recording a time of 1:33.96, securing first place, setting a new conference and meet record previously set in 2011, and a NCAA B cut qualifying time.
Day 3:
The women's 200-yard medley relay team of Sotek, Thomas, Lowe and Johannsen set a new championship and conference record while also qualifying for the NCAA championship with their time of 1:42.82.
Chloe Marcyan led the way in the 200-yard butterfly with a final time of 2:10.00, followed by
Maura Sheehan at 2:16.67.
Maya Marcyan tied for second place in the 100-yard backstroke with a final time of 58.26, while
Emily Thomas and Addison Luce landed on top ion the 100-yard breaststroke, finishing at 1:03.38 and 1:08.08.
DAY 4:
The Knights headed into the final day of competition fired up and it showed in the first race of the evening, with a podium sweep from
Hannah Brockman,
Abby Funk and
Maura O'Donnell in the 1650-yard freestyle. Brockman led the way with a time of 17:20.84, qualifying for the NCAA Championship, followed by Funk at 17:4455 and O'Donnell at 18:09.03.
Alex Sotek and Erin Johansen controlled the 100-yard free, with Sotek touching at 51.93 and Johannsen right behind her at 56.47 for first and second place. In the 200-yard backstroke,
Maya Marcyan and
Molly McGourty took second and third with less than a second separating their times of 2:06.96 and 2:07.79.
Emily Thomas crushed the 200-yard breaststroke, finishing at 2:21.38, with seven seconds between her and the second-place finisher. The Knights had another podium sweep in the 3-meter diving, with
Lydia Benjamin landing on top with her score of 473.70, followed by
Morgan Davey with 465.40 points and
Lauren Savage with 411.65 points. To end the meet, Sotek, Johannsen, Lowe and Sorbello finished on top in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a final time of 3:30.16.
