ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo women's swimming and diving team came out on top at the Brockport Invite on Saturday afternoon, defeating the Golden Eagles, Grove City, and Penn State Behrend. The Knights took first overall with 1025 points, while Grove City was in second with 618.5.
Geneseo opened the meet on a high note, with the team of
Courtney Sorbello,
Alise Hale,
Emily Thomas, and
Alex Sotek taking first overall in the 200 yard medley relay with a time of 1:49.64.
Abby Funk and
Hannah Brockman kept the momentum going, finishing first and second, respectively, in the 1000 yard freestyle just .06 seconds apart.
Emily McCord made it three-straight first place finishes to start the meet for the Knight, winning the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 2:01.66.
Nina Chicatelli and Sorbello continued the strong performances by the Knights, finishing in the top two spots in the 100 yard backstroke with times of 1:01.38 and 1:01.42, respectively. Thomas tallied her second win of the meet in the 100 yard breaststroke, finishing with a time of 1:07.92, while Hale nabbed her second as well with a time of 2:13.23 in the 200 yard butterfly.
At the halfway mark of the swim events, Sotek took first overall in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 24.67, while
Erin Johannsen was in second at 25.47. Sotek then made it two-in-a-row with a first place finish and time of 55.58 in the 100 yard freestyle. Chicatelli tallied a win for the Knights in the 200 yard backstroke, posting a time of 2:15.17, while Funk picked up her second first place finish of the meet in a distance event, winning the 500 yard freestyle at 5:20.04. Once again, Brockman was right behind her, finishing second with a time of 5:20.65. In the 100 yard butterfly, Hale earned the top spot with a time of 1:00.13 with teammate
Sarah Cooper close behind in second. The Knights closed out the swimming portion of the meet with Sotek winning the 200 yard IM, and then the team of Chicatelli, McCord, Johannsen, and Sorbello winning the 200 yard freestyle relay at 1:40.23.
Lydia Benjamin swept the diving events, scoring 228.20 in the one meter dive and 216.10 in the three meter dive. For the full results from today's meet,
