BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo women's tennis team came up short in the opening match of their three-day SUNYAC weekend in Binghamton, as they fell to New Paltz, 8-1.
The Knights put up a strong fight in doubles action, as
Alex Galle and
Samantha Rava, and
Abigail Rockwood and
Talia Wutz both dropped an 8-6 decision at second and third doubles, respectively. At first doubles
Natalie Pipes and
Rory Tobin fell 8-3.
Tobin provided the highlight of the day for Geneseo, winning second singles in a third-set tiebreaker, 6-4 2-6 10-4. Unfortunately, the Knights were unable to pick any other points in singles play and ultimately fell 8-1.Â
New Paltz is a very good team," said head coach
Alan Heverly. "We played great doubles, probably the best we have played all year. Though we lost, we were competitive in many matches. This match was a loss but I am proud of our players for effort and because they played some very good tennis."
Geneseo will return to action tomorrow at 3 p.m. against Plattsburgh, and then again on Saturday at 3 p.m. against Oneonta.
