Alan Heverly enters his fourth season as head coach at Geneseo in 2025-26.
Heverly comes to Geneseo with previous coaching experience at both the NCAA Division I and NCAA Division III levels. Heverly served as an assistant coach at NCAA Division I Lehigh University (Pa.) before becoming a part of the men's and women's tennis coaching staff at NCAA Division III Moravian University. While at Moravian, Heverly and his staff were named the Landmark Conference Coaching Staff of the Year in 2008-09. He ascended to head coach of both the men's and women's programs prior to the 2015-16 season. In two seasons as head coach, Heverly led the Greyhounds women's team to a combined 17-15 record while he led the men's team to an ECAC Finals appearance in 2016. He also served as head coach at Lehigh/Carbon Community College as well.
"We are excited to add Coach Heverly to the Geneseo Family," said Drews. "Alan has coaching and playing experience at so many levels, we are fortunate to have him take over the reins. We're looking forward to a great year for the Knights."
In addition to his college coaching experience, Heverly has taught tennis at clubs in the Lehigh Valley and Philadelphia areas, including Racquet Sports Director at Lehigh Country Club for eight years. He also served as the teaching professional at Northwood Racquet Club in Easton, Pa. where he trained several nationally-ranked high school tennis players, two Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association district champions and a Pennsylvania State Champion as well.
"I am looking forward to getting back into college tennis and Geneseo looks like the perfect place to restart," said Heverly. "The campus is beautiful, the team seems excited about the upcoming season and everyone I have talked to has been both extremely friendly and helpful! I can't wait to get started!"
A former student-athlete at Moravian, Heverly played two seasons for the Greyhounds with a 21-8 singles record after attending Bucks Country Community College where he played in two NJCAA national tournaments. In 1996 he led the team to the Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth League title while serving as a team captain, the program's first-ever postseason berth. He was named to the GTE Academic All-America College Division First Team as a senior, the MAC All-Academic Team in 1995 and 1996 and Moravian's Co-Blue & Grey Senior Scholar-Athlete in 1996. He was inducted into Moravian's Athletics Hall of Fame in 2008.
Heverly completed his Bachelors of Arts in psychology at Moravian in 1996, graduating Magna Cum Laude, and he finished a Masters of Education in human development at Lehigh in 2000.
