ONEONTA, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo women's tennis team defeated Nazareth in the Empire 8 semifinals on Friday afternoon by a score of 4-0. The semifinal victory advances the Knights to the Empire 8 championship match for the second-straight season, where they will take on Hartwick tomorrow at 2 p.m.
Geneseo earned the doubles point behind 6-3 victories from both
Natalie Pipes and
JoAnn Catalano at first doubles, and
Samantha Rava and
Rachel Molloy at second doubles. The Knights wasted no time securing the four points needed to advance in singles action, handily winning at fourth, fifth, and sixth singles. Catalano picked up her second win of the match at fourth singles with a score of 6-2 6-0, followed by
Lauren Levatino at fifth singles with a 6-2 6-2 win.
Ashleigh Fredriksen picked up the match-clinching point at sixth singles with a score of 6-0 6-0.
The Knights look to avenge last seasons loss to Hartwick in the Empire 8 final tomorrow at 2 p.m. in Wilbur Park.
