ONEONTA, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo women's tennis team was unable to come out on top in the Empire 8 Championship match on Saturday afternoon, falling 4-1 to top-seeded Hartwick.
The Knights struggled to find their rhythm early in the match, and couldn't pull out the doubles point as they fell at first and second doubles by scores of 6-2 and 6-0, respectively.
Natalie Pipes got things going for the Knights in singles action, pulling out a 6-2 7-5 victory. After wins at third and fourth singles, the Hawks were one match away from clinching the title, but
Samantha Rava put up a battle at second singles and forced a third set. Unfortunately, Rava couldn't find a way to win the final set and fell 6-1 1-6 6-1 and Hartwick escaped with the match-clinching point. At fifth singles,
Lauren Levatino had won the first set 7-5 before the match was decided during the second set, and
Talia Wutz was ahead 6-2 4-0 when the match had come to an end.
Geneseo finishes the fall season with an overall record of 9-3.
