BUFFALO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo women's swimming and diving team continued their strong start to the 2023-24 season as they defeated Alfred. St. 232-60 on Saturday afternoon at Erie Community College.
The Knights had an impressive start to the meet, taking the top three spots in the 200 yard medley relay. The team of
Courtney Sorbello,
Emily Thomas,
Alise Hale, and
Mackenzie Fischer led the way with a time of 1:50.75.
Abby Funk and
Karly Bray then kept the momentum going in the 1000 yard freestyle, taking first and second, respectively. In the 200 yard freestyle relay,
Madison Sargent took the top spot for Geneseo with a time of 1:59.06. In the 100 yard backstroke, Sorbello picked up her second win of the meet posting a time of 1:02.60.
Jessica Gordon added another nine points and a victory for Geneseo in the 100 yard breaststroke, touching the wall in 1:11.78.
Alex Sotek then picked up a win in the 200 yard butterfly, recording a time of 2:18.10. Geneseo added another strong showing in the 50 yard freestyle, as Fischer led three Knights in the top three spots with a time of 25.34.
Sinead Devaney then earned a victory in the meet as she took first in the 200 yard backstroke at 2:16.12.
Hannah Brockman,
Ashley Felber, and
Olympia Frisoni took second through fourth in the race.
Emily Thomas took first in the 200 yard breaststroke, while
Abby Funk added another win in a distance event by taking first in the 500 yard freestyle. In the 100 yard butterfly, Hale earned the win for Geneseo with a time of 59.37.
Makayla French helped close out the individual races on a high note as she finished first in the 400 yard IM with a time of 4:59.28. The Knights then took first in the 400 yard freestyle relay, as the team of
Madison Sargent,
Amaya DiGiovanni,
Alex Sotek, and
Mackenzie Fischer posted a time of 3:42.52.
In the dive events,
Alexandra Pucci-Schaefer took first place in both events for Geneseo. In the one-meter dive, Pucci-Schaefer recorded a score of 235.30 and then in the three-meter dive tallied a score of 235.30. For the full results from the meet,
