CORTLAND, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo women's lacrosse team put up an incredible fourth-quarter comeback attempt in the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) championship game against Cortland, but ultimately fell 16-14.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Geneseo started off the game with a strong offensive game plan and took a 4-3 lead with under six minutes left in the first quarter. However, the Red Dragons rebounded and scored the final three goals of the quarter to take a 6-4 advantage.
• Cortland was able to keep their momentum going from the strong finish to the first quarter and took a 10-5 lead into halftime.
• The Red Dragons scored the first three goals of the second half, and took an eight-goal lead, but the Knights weren't going to back down yet. Geneseo scored four of the next five goals and cut the deficit to just five goals heading to the final 15 minutes.
• Graduate attacker Hannah Marafioti opened up the scoring in the fourth quarter and scored two of the first three goals as the Knights made a two-goal game just over eight minutes left to play.
• After Cortland extended their lead back to three goals, Molly Brown and Marafioti scored back-to-back goals within 30 seconds of each other to make it a 15-14 lead for Cortland. Geneseo won the ensuing draw control, but were unable to get a shot on goal and ultimately fell 16-14.

QUICK FACTS

• Molly Brown, Madelynn Brown, and Marafioti all scored four goals for Geneseo, while Marafioti finished with a team-high seven points.
• Emily DeJohn earned the start in goal and tallied seven saves. April Rowell led the way in caused turnovers with three, while Molly Brown and Emily Salanger each tallied five draw controls.
• Madelynn Brown, Molly Brown, Rowell, and Marafioti were all named to the All-Tournament team.
