UTICA, NY: The SUNY Geneseo women's lacrosse team cruised past the Utica Pioneers 20-5, clinching the No.2 seed for the Empire 8 Championships. The Knights ended the regular season with an overall record of 9-7 and were 7-1 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• The Knights started out hot, posting seven goals in the first quarter. Natalie Long and Rosemary Mahoney led the team with two goals each to start the game.
• Geneseo continued to push, capitalizing on a free position shot from Grace Reyna and man-up goal by Lila Warner to extend their lead to 11-3 at half.
• Long went on a run to open the third quarter, tallying her seventh hattrick of the season with three back-to-back goals in four minutes.
• The Knights added four more in the final 15 minutes of play; two from Cara Calicchia, followed by Dany Emler and Reyna each scoring one of their own, leading the team to a 20-5 victory over Utica.

QUICK FACTS:

• Natalie Long posted a season high eight points off five goals and three assists. She leads the Knights in goals, totaling 39 this season.
• Rosemary Mahoney joined Long with a season high eight points, posting four goals and four assists. She leads the team with 60 points from 27 goals and 33 assists.
• The Knights picked up 12 caused turnovers, led by Calicchia with three.

Geneseo heads into the post season with the No. 2 seed. The Knights will host the winner of the Brockport vs. Nazareth game on Thursday, April 30^th at 4 PM.
