CORTLAND, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo women's lacrosse team advanced to the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) championship game after defeating Brockport 12-8 in the semifinal matchup.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The Knights never held lead in the first quarter as they trailed 1-0 and 2-1. Senior attacker Emma Gaenzle tied the game with just over a minute left in the first quarter, and Geneseo was able to run with that momentum the rest of the way.
• Hannah Marafioti and Caitlyn Korzeniewski scored back-to-back goals in the second quarter to help take a 4-2 lead. Molly Brown and Marafioti then capped off the impressive second quarter performance with a pair of free position goals and the Knights led by three going into halftime.
• Geneseo concluded their semifinal win by outscoring the Golden Eagles 4-2 in the fourth quarter. Brockport had cut the lead to two goals heading into the fourth, but the Knights put to rest any thoughts of a comeback with the first three goals of the fourth quarter.

QUICK FACTS

• Marafioti led Geneseo offensively with six points on three goals and three assists. Megan Cook, Megan Henderson, Emily Salanger and Molly Brown all chipped in two points.
• Emily DeJohn got the win in goal by making seven saves, while Molly Brown led the team in ground balls with four.
• The Knights will make their first return to the SUNYAC Championship game since 2019, and the program's eighth appearance all-time.
