Box Score GENESEO, N.Y. – The SUNY Geneseo women's lacrosse team got off to an impressive 10-0 lead in the first quarter against Potsdam on Saturday afternoon to propel them to a 22-4 victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Sophomore midfielder Emily Salanger got the scoring started for the Knights just 30 seconds into the action, and then senior midfielder Emma Gaenzle scored back-to-back goals to make it a 3-0 lead within the first three minutes of action.
Salanger kept the offensive momentum going as the quarter went on, scoring her second and third goal of the game to help the Knights take a 6-0 lead with over nine minutes remaining in the quarter.
Graduate attacker Hannah Marafioti got in on the scoring and netted two of the next four goals for Geneseo to lead 10-0 at the end of the first 15 minutes of action.
The Bears bounced back in the second quarter and scored three-straight to close out the quarter and cut the advantage to 11-3 heading into the second half.
The Knights regained their offensive momentum quickly in the third quarter and went on to close out the 22-4 win.
QUICK FACTS
Gaenzle, Salanger, and Marafioti all netted four goals to lead the Knights attack, while Marafioti and Gaenzle each added an assist to reach a team-high five points. Sophomore attacker Megan Cook also added five points.
Emily DeJohn got the start and win in goal, while Margaret Rosachi and Lindsey Isenberg both saw action during the game in goal.
The Knights have now won all 24 matchups against Potsdam in the team's all-time series.
