Box Score ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo women's lacrosse team earned their seventh-consecutive victory on Thursday afternoon as they traveled to St. John Fisher and picked up a 16-13 win.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Following a slow start offensively for both teams, sophomore midfielder Emily Salanger got the scoring start just over eight minutes in. The Cardinals were able to answer shortly after, but the Knights registered three unanswered goals, all assisted by sophomore attacker Megan Cook.
- Geneseo went on to take a 7-3 lead in the second quarter after first-year attacker Madelynn Brown scored her third goal of the half. St. John Fisher responded strongly with four-straight goals to close out the quarter and enter halftime with a tied game.
- The Knights made the halftime adjustments they needed on both sides of the ball and outscored the Cardinals 6-0 in the third quarter. Graduate attacker Hannah Marafioti put up four points in the quarter with three goals and one assist.
- St. John Fisher attempted to make a comeback in the final quarter, but Geneseo's defense held strong and the Knights pulled out the 16-13 win.
QUICK FACTS
- Marafioti tallied one assist in the game, which was all she needed to set the single-season program record for assists. With her five total points, she is now six away from breaking her own single-season record for points.
- Madelynn Brown led the offensive effort with six points on three goals and three assists, while Cook chipped in five points of her own with one goal and four assists.
- The Knights were able to overcome a 27-6 disadvantage in draw controls, and sophomore Emily DeJohn tallied five saves to get the win in goal.
