Box Score CORTLAND, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo women's lacrosse team had its four-game win streak snapped on Saturday afternoon as they fell at Cortland, 14-6.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Knights got off to a slow start as the Red Dragons jumped ahead to a 3-0 lead in the first 10 minutes of action. Senior midfielder Emma Gaenzle got Geneseo on the board with 3:30 left in the opening quarter, but Cortland answered with 41 seconds left to maintain a three-goal advantage.
- Geneseo settled in defensively in the second quarter and limited the high-powered Cortland offense to two goals. Graduate attacker Hannah Marafioti and sophomore midfielder Caitlyn Korzeniewski each added a goal in the quarter to keep the lead at three goals.
- The Knights were unable to build any comeback momentum in the second half and ultimately fell 14-6.
QUICK FACTS
- Geneseo had six different goal scorers in the game, while Marafioti and first-year attacker Madelynn Brown led the team with two points each.
- Sophomore goalkeeper Emily DeJohn played all 60 minutes in goal and tallied eight saves on 22 shots faced.
- Junior midfielder Meg Seeley tallied a team-high four ground balls and sophomore midfielder Emily Salanger added a team-best three draw controls.
