Box Score GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo senior attacker Hannah Marafioti led the way with six goals and three assists as the Knights pulled away in the second half to defeat the visiting Oswego Lakers, 22-9, in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) matchup at College Stadium on Monday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Geneseo opened the game with six-straight goals, including three from Marafioti, to generate a sizable lead early on. First-year Emily Salanger scored with 14:10 remaining in the first half to put the Knights ahead, 8-2, but Oswego cut the lead to four goals before the halftime whistle as the two teams entered the break with Geneseo leading, 10-6.
- The Lakers opened the second half with two quick goals, cutting the lead to 10-8 just 2:33 into the second half, forcing a Geneseo timeout.
- The Knights won the ensuing draw and junior Emma Gaenzle netted a free-position shot with 26:32 to play, ending the Lakers' run and shifting momentum back for the home team.
- Geneseo finished the game on a 12-1 scoring run to open up the game and earn the lopsided victory.
QUICK FACTS
- Marafioti tallied nine points, her second-highest single-game scoring effort in her career. She scored eight goals and dished two assists for a career-high 10 points in a 19-18 victory over Cortland (April 20, 2019).
- Senior attackers Tessa Doody and Jacqui Thorsen scored four goals apiece while senior attacker Nicole Voci added a pair of goals and three assists. Gaenzle and Salanger each finished with two goals and two assists as well.
