Box Score GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo attacker Hannah Marafioti scored two goals and added two assists, but it wasn't enough as the 13th-ranked Knights fell to the 16th-ranked St. John Fisher Cardinals 11-10 in double overtime this Saturday at College Stadium.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Knights struck first at 26:31 behind a goal from senior attacker Jacqui Thorsen. Marafioti picked up the assist.
- After the Cardinals answered to tie the game at 1-1, the Knights rattled off five straight goals to make the score 6-1. First-year midfielder Emily Salanger scored the first of the five, and senior attacker Tessa Doody got the assist. Marafioti then scored two straight unassisted to make the score 4-1. Doody scored two straight of her own right after. Assisting on the first was first-year attacker Megan Cook, and assisting on the second was senior midfielder Megan Henderson. Doody's second goal came with 8:01 left in the first half.
- After a halftime score of 6-3 in favor of Geneseo, the Knights scored quick to open the second half, with senior attacker Nicole Voci scoring on a pass from junior midfielder Emma Gaenzle with 29:00 left in the half.
- The Knights allowed three straight goals after that which made the score 7-6 Geneseo, but they responded with three of their own. Senior midfielder Laura Skrzypczyk scored her second of the season with 19:54 on the clock with an assist from Henderson. Three minutes later, Voci scored her second on a feed from Marafioti. The game then went eleven minutes without a goal until Voci found Salanger for a goal at the 5:06 mark to put the Knights up 10-6.
- St. John Fisher scored with one second left in regulation to tie the game up at ten. They went on to win in double overtime on a goal from Mackenzie Alexander. Alexander picked up a ball in front of the net and with her back turned to the goal, fired the shot behind her head with one second left on the shot clock to give the Cardinals the win.
