Box Score GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo senior attacker Hannah Marafioti scored a team-high four goals and dished out a pair of assists as the 15th-ranked Knights defeated visiting Buffalo State, 17-3, on Wednesday afternoon at College Stadium.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Geneseo (2-0, 2-0 SUNYAC) jumped out to an early lead, scoring five-straight goals over the first 5:11 of the game. Marafioti opened the scoring under a minute into the game, before senior attackers Tessa Doody, Nicole Voci and Megan Henderson each tallied a goal and Marafioti netted a second to make it 5-0.
- The Knights tallied four more goals before the halftime break to take a 9-0 advantage after the first 30 minutes. Junior goalkeeper Margaret Rosaschi stopped both shots she faced in the first half to hold the Bengals scoreless.
- Geneseo extended its lead in the second half, scoring six-straight goals to take it to 15-0 nearly halfway through the period.
- Buffalo State got on the board with its first goal of the game with 12:12 remaining and added a pair of goals in the final four minutes, but the Knights held on for the victory.
QUICK FACTS
- Marafioti tallied her first multi-goal game of the season, recording a squad-best six points. Voci finished with three goals and two assists while Doody scored twice and handed out three assists.
- The Geneseo bench erupted when first-year midfielder Emily Salanger scored her first career goal with 15:13 remaining in the second half and went crazy again with 5:05 to play as Megan Cook scored her first collegiate goal.
- Senior midfielder Laura Skrzypczyk notched a team-high seven draw controls and added a pair of caused turnovers while senior defender Caitlyn Merkel notched a team-high four ground balls and a squad-best three caused turnovers.
- Sophomore goalkeeper Lindsey Isenberg saw her first career action, making one save in over the final 16:40 of game time.
