Box Score GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo first-year midfielder Hannah Sullivan scored a goal and dished off an assist as the No. 14 Knights opened their season with a 2-0 victory over New England College on Friday night at College Stadium.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Sophomore forward Ellie Gregory broke a scoreless tie in the 33rd minute after Sullivan beat a defender on the end line and fired a pass to the top of the box. Gregory slotted the ball past the keeper into the far post netting to put Geneseo ahead, 1-0.
- In the second half, Sullivan scored her first collegiate goal off a cross from junior forward Domenica Piccoli to put the home team ahead, 2-0.
- The Pilgrims' best chance came in the 69th minute when a cross fell to a New England College striker. Senior goalkeeper Emily Janiszewski parried the shot and dove on the ball to preserve the shutout.

- Sullivan's three-point performance marked the first time a first-year has notched a goal and an assist in her debut since Leah Greene '18 accomplished the feat in a 2-0 victory over Baldwin-Wallace to open the 2014 season.
- Janiszewski registered her first shutout of the season and the 29th of her career. She ranks second in Geneseo history in career shutouts behind Paula Fisher '95 (38).
- The Knights improve to 4-0-1 in their past five season openers. The squad has not lost its first game of the year since the 2013 campaign.
