Women's Soccer Falls To Brockport In Regular Season Finale

BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The SUNY Geneseo women's soccer team played their final game of the regular season this afternoon in an Empire 8 match up against the Brockport Golden Eagles. In a hard-fought game, the Knights fell 2-0, making their final record 5-5-7 and 5-2-4 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Kirsten Shepherd and Ella Yartym started off strong in the opening minutes for the Knights. Shepherd had a shot that just went over the net, while Yartym also nearly found the back of the net, but the Golden Eagles were able to make the save. Brockport was able gain control of the game early, going ahead 1-0 in the ninth minute.
  • The Knight's defense held well for the rest of the first half despite the pressure they faced and entered halftime down 1-0.
  • Geneseo was able to create more offensive opportunities in the second half. The Knights kept the Golden Eagles in their defensive zone but couldn't put the ball between the posts. Brockport scored in the 60th minute, making the score 2-0. Geneseo couldn't was unable to get on the scoreboard and fell 2-0.
QUICK FACTS:
  • Seven Knights had shots in the game, Yartym and Shepherd led the way with three and two, respectively.
  • Emily McLouth and Natalie Budgar each played a half. McLouth registered five saves, while Budgar had three. McLouth finishes the regular season with 61 total saves.
