No. 12 Women's Lacrosse Rallies to Beat Brockport, 11-10, in Overtime

Box Score

BROCKPORT, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo senior midfielder Erin Cregan scored four goals, including the game-winner with 2:16 remaining in overtime as the No. 12 Knights earned an 11-10 victory over Brockport in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) women's lacrosse action, Friday.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The game was scoreless for the first 9:39 until Geneseo first-year attacker Hannah Marafioti opened the scoring.
  • The Golden Eagles responded with four-straight goals to take a 4-1 advantage into the break.
  • Brockport (1-7, 1-1 SUNYAC) extended its lead less than two minutes into the second half, but the Knights used a three-goal run as junior midfielder Carly Cullen, senior attacker Hannah Millich and Cregan each scored to pull within a goal, 5-4, at the 22:31 mark.
  • The hosts regained a four-goal lead after junior midfielder Jade Williams scored three goals in four minutes to give Brockport an 8-4 lead with 18:10 remaining.
  • Geneseo (9-0, 2-0 SUNYAC) answered with four-consecutive goals in less than two minutes, to even the score at 8-8 with 9:16 on the clock.
  • The Knights and Golden Eagles alternated goals for the remainder of regulation. Sophomore attacker Tessa Doody scored with 1:12 remaining to make it 10-10 and send the game into overtime.
  • After junior midfielder Mallory Max won the opening draw control of the extra period, Marafioti drove to the right and drew a second defender before finding Cregan near the eight-meter arc. Cregan dodged and scored from close range to seal the Geneseo victory.

QUICK FACTS

  • The Knights corralled 18 ground balls to Brockport's 11, including three from sophomore  defender Cassidy O'Rourke.
  • Max tallied a game-high five draw controls for the second-consecutive contest as junior goalkeeper Tess McFadden recorded seven saves in the Geneseo net.
  • The victory marks the ninth-straight for the Knights, the second-longest winning-streak in program history.
