Women's Lacrosse Defeats Buffalo State, 20-6, In SUNYAC Quarterfinals

GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo sophomore midfielder Maddie Lee netted four goals to lead the third-seeded Knights to a 20-6 victory over sixth-seeded Buffalo State in the quarterfinals of the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Tournament, Tuesday. 

The Knights advanced to the semifinals for the third-straight season and will face second-seeded Cortland this Friday (May 5) at 4:00 p.m. in a game to be played at top-seeded Brockport. A win over the Red Dragons would push the Knights to the SUNYAC Championship game for the first time since the 2014 season.

Junior attackers Erin Cregan and Hannah Millich, along with first-year attacker Tessa Doody, each scored three goals as the Knights (9-8) compiled their highest scoring output of the season.

Lee opened the scoring at the 3:58 mark, beating a defender on the left side and streaking toward the middle to score on a low shot. Senior midfielder Lauren Corbett added a free-position goal under a minute later to give Geneseo a 2-0 lead.  

Buffalo State (6-11) netted its first goal with 17:45 remaining in the half, but Millich responded with a tally 41 seconds later that triggered a 6-0 Geneseo run as the Knights  built and 8-1 lead. The Bengals responded with a 3-1 run, but the Knights outscored the visitors, 2-0, over the final eight minutes to carry an 11-4 lead into halftime. Geneseo's 11 goals were the most its scored in the first half this season. 

The Knights held the Bengals scoreless for the first 25:09 of the second half as they built a 19-4 lead on eight straight goals. Buffalo State netted a free position score with 5:41 to go, and added another with 2:42 to play, making the score 19-6, beforefirst-year attacker Megan Fisher scored her first career goal in the final minute as the Knights earned the win.
