Women's Lacrosse Opens Season With 13-8 Win Over St. Lawrence

GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo senior midfielder Lauren Corbett scored three goals and two assists while junior attack Halee Beebe added two goals and two assists to lead the Knights over visiting St. Lawrence, 13-8, in the season-opener, Wednesday.

Junior midfielder Erin Cregan totaled two goals, an assist, six draw controls and three caused turnovers in the victory. 

Trailing, 3-2, with 18:21 left in the first half, Geneseo scored five-unanswered goals, including a pair by Corbett, to build a 7-3 lead with 27:11 left in the second half.

The Saints (0-1) scored three goals in just over a four-minute span to pull within one, 7-6, with 19:48 left in regulation, but the Knights finished the game on a 6-2 run, including four unanswered in the final seven minutes of regulation, to pull away for the victory.

Geneseo finished the afternoon with a 29-17 advantage in shots, while compiling a 23-18 advantage in ground balls, including a game-high six by first-year defender Caroline McGuigan

Sophomore goalie Tess McFadden finished with three saves to earn her first collegiate victory. 

The Knights kick off a six-game road swing on Saturday, traveling to William Smith on Saturday (March 4) for a 1:00 p.m. start.
