Box Score CORTLAND, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo senior attacker Katey Hart scored three goals, but it was No. 17 Fredonia moving past the No. 18 Knights, 8-3, in the semifinals of the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Women's Lacrosse Tournament, Friday, hosted by Cortland.
Fredonia (15-2) got on the board first on a goal by Emily Polizzi at 25:11, but Hart aswered with a tally after a long run in transition following a save by junior goalie Claudia Coleates on a Blue Devil free-position shot at the other end to knot the game with 23:40 on the clock.
Fredonia added a free-position goal by Kristie Kleine at 19:29 with Hart in the penalty box following a yellow card before Shelby DePew made it a two-goal edge with a tally at 14:22.
Geneseo (14-3) got one back after Hart was left open on a cut from behind the right post during a free position attempt and scored off nice a pass by first-year midfielder Erin Cregan from the top-left of the eight-meter to pull back within one, 3-2, with 3:51 remaining in the half.
Fredonia scored a pair of goals with only 22 seconds remaining before intermission, including one with five seconds on the clock, that started a methodical 5-0 run that put Geneseo at an 8-2 deficit with 10:21 left in regulation. Pollizzi scored the final four goals of the run to finish the day with five goals.
Hart finished off the hat trick with 1:15 left in regulation for the final goal of the game.
Entering the weekend ranked fifth in the East Region poll, the Knights await a possible Pool C bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament. The field will be announced Sunday night at 9:30 p.m. at ncaachampionships.com.
