Box Score GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo junior attacker Tara Basile scored the game-winning goal with 40 seconds left in overtime while junior goalie Claudia Coleates totaled 12 saves, including a game-saving stop with two seconds left in extra time, to lead the No. 19 Knights to an 8-7 victory over visiting St. John Fisher, Thursday.
Senior attacker Katey Hart scored two goals and notched two assists, including the game-winning helper on Basile's tally, as Geneseo (12-2) earned its fourth-straight victory.
Geneseo scored the game's first five goals to lead 5-1 at intermission. Hart scored two of the Knights' first three tallies, notching a free position attempt at 21:22 before sophomore midfielder Lauren Corbett cashed in a Basile assist for a goal at 15:06. Hart made a nice move from behind the St. John Fisher goal to tuck a shot inside the left post for a 3-0 lead at 10:51.
Sophomore attacker Kathleen DePillo scored a low shot on the run from the left side at 9:45 before sophomore attacker Sarah Haggerty bounced in a free position shot at 6:12 to put the home team up by five. Cardinals' first-year midfielder Cori Holbrook scored on a free position attempt with 15 seconds left in the half to cut the deficit to four heading into intermission.
To start the second half, senior attacker Erin Ward continued the 3-0 St. John Fisher (11-5) run with a free position conversion at 21:25 before senior midfielder Lindsey Shoales made a nice dodge from the top of the eight-meter to score from close range at 19:24.
Junior attacker Erin Down slipped a low shot into the net just outside the crease after a nice feed from Hart to put the Knights back up, 6-3, with 18:05 remaining in regulation, but back-to-back free position goals by junior attacker Sierra Badger in a 43 second stretch pulled the visitors back within one, 6-5, with 16:06 on the clock.
Geneseo junior midfielder Liz Felix got into the action with a nice lefty dodge on the run to get open for a goal with 7:19 left in regulation, but Badger tied the game with two more goals, the first in transition with 4:27 left and the second on a free position conversion with 23 seconds left in regulation to force overtime.
Geneseo won the opening draw of overtime, but mis-fired on two shot attempts. St. John Fisher took possession and was awarded a free position attempt after a Geneseo foul with six seconds left in the first three-minute session of overtime, but Coleates came up with a save on the ensuing shot.
Geneseo won the draw to start the second three-minute session. Following a timeout with 1:54 on the clock, the Knights' attack maintained possession until Hart drew a double-team on a left-side dodge to the Cardinal cage and hit an open Basile with a nice crossing feed that she scored inside the right post for the deciding goal.
St. John Fisher won the ensuing draw and, following a Geneseo foul with nine seconds remaining, was awarded a free position attempt. However, Coleates made a crucial stick save to smother senior midfielder Samantha Barton's shot to preserve the victory.
Geneseo closes out the regular season this Saturday with a trip to Oneonta for a 12:00 p.m. match that will decide the third and fourth seeds for next week's State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Tournament.
