Box Score FREDONIA, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo junior attacker Tara Basile totaled two goals and two assists while junior midfielder Liz Felix added three goals but it was No. 20 Fredonia holding on for the 9-8 overtime victory opposite the No. 18 Knights, Tuesday in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) women's lacrosse action.
Trailing, 7-3 at halftime, Geneseo (8-2, 3-2 SUNYAC) out-scored the Blue Devils (11-2, 4-1 SUNYAC), 5-1, in the second half to force extra time. However, it was Fredonia scoring the eventual game-winner 3:17 into overtime to earn the win.
Junior goalie Claudia Coleates made a career-high 13 saves, including three in overtime, to suffer her first loss of the season (6-1).
Fredonia opened a 3-0 lead in the first eight minutes of the game before Felix put the Knights on the board with a tally at 14:05. The Blue Devils scored twice in a two-minute stretch to extend their lead to 5-1 with 7:17 remaining in the half.
First-year midfielder Erin Cregan scored off a Basile feed at 4:09 before Felix cashed in a Cregan assist at 2:44 to make it a two-goal game, but Fredonia scored two more times in the last 1:15 to build its lead back to four after 30 minutes of play.
Basile started the Knights' comeback with a short-handed tally at 25:43. Fredonia answered less than three minutes later but the Geneseo defense held their hosts scoreless for the final 22:52 of regulation.
Felix's third goal came unassisted at 20:06 and started the string of four-unanswered Knights' tallies that forced overtime. Basile converted a free-position attempt at 15:06 before senior attacker Katey Hart netted her team-leading 30th goal of the season to make it a one-goal deficit with 11:34 left in the second half. Cregan used a Basile feed to tie the game at 8:57 and force the eventual overtime.
Geneseo will host back-to-back games this Friday against Ithaca at 4:00 p.m. and SUNYAC-rival Potsdam on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
