Box Score GENESEO, N.Y. – SUNY Geneseo senior forward Jori Semrau assisted on two of the Knights' three goals to help the squad earn a 3-1 victory over Nazareth in its home opener, Thursday.
"Today was a great win against a strong team. The production we showed offensively was very encouraging," said head coach Nate Wiley. "It wasn't just the amount of opportunities we created but the goals we scored because of them. We maintained possession well and rewarded ourselves for it."
Geneseo and Nazareth battled back and forth for a majority of the first period, tallying five and six shots, respectively. In the 44th minute, first-year back Leah Greene found sophomore midfielder Emily Green in the middle of the penalty box for a score in the upper left side of the goal, her second of the season.
In the 51st minute, Semrau delivered a long ball through the middle of the field to junior forward Kelsey Raschke who netted a goal over the keeper from outside the box. The Knights (3-0) recorded another score in the 64th minute when Semrau made her second assist of the match with a cross from the right side of the field to junior midfielder Stephanie Clookey for the goal.
"Jori did a great job of holding the ball and being a target and then she delivered a beautiful ball into Kelsey, who was able to capitalize," said Wiley. "For our third goal, Jori battled and took hits from multiple players until she was able to play a nice ball to Clookey for the finish."
The Golden Flyers (2-1) got on the board in the 69th minute when Rachel Dise hit a ball to the left side of the net past the Knights' senior goalkeeper Allison Stamp, who recorded six saves on the day. Geneseo finished with 14 shots while Nazareth tallied 13.
The Knights look to keep its winning streak alive Saturday night when they visit St. John Fisher for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
