CORTLAND, N.Y. - Geneseo (16-1) will square off with top-seeded and No. 1 Cortland (18-0) on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. for the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Women's Lacrosse Championship and an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament.
This is the second-consecutive season Geneseo and Cortland have met for the SUNYAC Title. The Knights also defeated Fredonia, 10-3, in the semifinals of the 2013 tournament, before succumbing, 12-5, in the championship game.
In Friday's semifinal victory over Fredonia, senior midfielder Emily Haggerty scored three goals and two assists while junior attack Katey Hart added three goals and one assist to lead the Knights to the 12-9 victory.
Holding an 8-7 lead with 15:06 to play in regulation, senior attack Caroline Buonocore found the net at 8:30 before sophomore midfielder Liz Felix scored her third goal of the day with 7:44 remaining as the Knights extended a lead back to three, 10-7, that proved to be insurmountable.
Cortland defeated Oneonta, 12-6, in the day's other semifinal.
