No. 8 Women's Lacrosse Advances Past Fredonia, 12-9, In SUNYAC Semis

CORTLAND, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo senior midfielder Emily Haggerty scored three goals and two assists while junior attack Katey Hart added three goals and one assist to lead the No. 8 Knights past Fredonia, 12-9, in the semifinals of the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Women's Lacrosse Tournament, Friday.

Geneseo (16-1) will square off with top-seeded and No. 1 Cortland (18-0) on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. for the conference title and an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament. Cortland defeated Oneonta, 12-6, in the day's other semifinal.

Holding an 8-7 lead with 15:06 to play in regulation, senior attack Caroline Buonocore would find the net at 8:30 before sophomore midfielder Liz Felix scored her third goal of the day with 7:44 remaining as the Knights extended a lead back to three, 10-7, that proved to be insurmountable.

This is the second-consecutive season Geneseo and Cortland have met for the SUNYAC Title. The Knights also defeated Fredonia, 10-3, in the semifinals of the 2013 tournament, before succumbing, 12-5, in the championship game.
