ROCHESTER, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo senior attack Caroline Buonocore scored four goals to become the first player in program history to surpass 200 career goals, but it was No. 2 Cortland shooting past the No. 9 Knights, 15-6, in the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) opener for both squads, Friday, in a game played at Monroe Community College's DiMarco Field.

Senior midfielder Emily Haggerty added a goal to become only the fourth player in program history to tally 200 career points, but it was the Knights (6-1, 0-1 SUNYAC) suffering their first loss of the season.

Cortland (7-0, 1-0 SUNYAC) was led by sophomore midfielder Tara Monaghan, who tallied four goals, while first-year attack Kristen Ohberg was credited with four assists in the victory.

Buonocore put the Knights on the board after converting a free position shot at 26:16, but Cortland would respond with four goals in the next four minutes to lead 4-1 at 22:16. Buonocore would score off a feed from senior attack Meredith Weber at 18:59, but the Red Dragons would finish the half on a 4-0 run to lead 7-2 after 30 minutes of play.

Cortland took command of the game with five unanswered tallies to start the second half and lead, 12-2, with 21:55 on the clock. Backt-to-back goals by Buonocore and sophomore midfielder Liz Felix made it a 12-4 game with 12:43 left in regulation, but tallies by Monaghan and junior midfielder Emma Hayes-Hurley, sandwhiched around a Geneseo goal by Haggerty finished off the scoring. 

Junior Laura Passamonte compiled a career-high 11 saves in goal for Geneseo.

Geneseo will return to action with a pair of games next week, hosting Oswego on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. followed by a visit from St. John Fisher on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
