No. 19 Women's Soccer Falls To Johns Hopkins In Second Round Of NCAA Tournament

Box Score

BALTIMORE, Md. – SUNY Geneseo senior midfielder Erin Froehlich tallied her second goal of the season but it was host Johns Hopkins taking the 3-1 victory in the second round of the NCAA D-III Women's Soccer Tournament, Sunday, ending the Knights' best season in twenty years and their 12-game unbeaten streak.

No. 19 Geneseo finished the season with a 16-3-3 record, its best mark since the 1993 squad went 18-2. The Knights are now 2-3-4 all-time in the NCAA Tournament as the team's second-round finish is its best since the program reached the tournament semifinals in 1994.

The Blue Jays got on the board in the 18th minute after senior back Allie Baker delivered a cross from the top left corner of the penalty box and first-year forward Bailey Monaco volleyed the pass into the bottom left corner of the net from five yards out.

Geneseo would be held to only two shots in the first 45 minutes of play, both taken by junior forward Kelsey Raschke, as the team would enter halftime trailing 1-0.

In the 52nd minute, Johns Hopkins struck again as junior midfielder Alaina Arthur settled a ball near the top of the box and drilled a shot in into the right side of the net. Not a minute later, Rascke hit a shot from just outside the right side of box that deflected off the near goal post.

In the 77th minute, the Blue Jays put the game out of reach as senior forward Hannah Kronick hit a shot from eight-yards out into the lower right corner of the net.

In the 80th minute, Froehlich got the Knights on the board when she scored from 20 yards out over the head of Johns Hopkins' keeper after sophomore midfielder Laurie Knapp delivered her second assist of the tournament across the top of the box.

Senior keeper Allison Stamp recorded seven saves as Johns Hopkins outshot Geneseo, 18-7.
