Box Score CANTON, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo senior goalkeeper Julia Sanger made five saves to preserve a 0-0 shoutout at No. 21 St. Lawrence, Saturday afternoon. It was the Knights' third-straight game without giving up a goal.
Geneseo (2-3-2) hasn't allowed a goal in its last 361:18 of action, while Sanger hasn't been scored on in her last 352:55 in goal for the Knights.
Much of the first half was played in the middle of the field with each team being unable to find seams in each other's defense. St. Lawrence had two one-on-one opportunities in the first half but Sanger deflected both shots to keep the Saints off the board.
One of Geneseo's best opportunities in regulation came in the first half when first-year midfielder Erin O'Connor took advantage of a misplayed ball by the St. Lawrence defense. Her bid from about 12 yards out ricocheted off of the right post.
St. Lawrence controled play for most of the second half, but couldn't find the net on numerous chances including a shot off the post and a hard, close-range shot that skipped wide of the net.
Geneseo's best opportunity to win the game was in the first overtime period as a ball was played over the Saints' defense to O'Connor, who took a left footed shot from just inside the 18 towards the right corner. Strauss made a diving effort to get her finger tips on the ball and deflect the ball out of bounds.
The Saints (6-0-2) got a career-high 11 save performance out of goalkeeper Andrea Strauss for her third shutout of the season.
Geneseo also drew 0-0 at RIT on Wednesday after shutting out Lycoming at home last Saturday, 7-0.
The Knights kick off the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) portion of its schedule next week with back-to-back matches at Buffalo State on Friday (Sept. 27) and Fredonia on Saturday (Sept. 28).
