Kubat, Comer, and Young Highlight Day Two of NCAA Championships with All-American Honors

LA CROSSE, W.I. - The SUNY Geneseo men's and women's track and field teams competed at the NCAA Championship Meet, hosted by Wisconsin La Crosse, from Thursday, May 21 through Saturday, May 23.

DAY TWO RECAP - Mackenzie Kubat provided a big highlight for the Knights on day two, earning First-Team All-American honors in the heptathlon by finishing seventh overall with a personal best score of 4847 points. On Thursday, the sophomore tallied 709 points in the long jump with a distance of 5.53m, 300 points in the javelin, and 807 in the 800m with a time of 2:21.21. In the women's 800m, Dakota Limbert secured her spot in the finals on Saturday with a time of 2:09.22, a personal best for sixth overall in the prelims. Sierra Doody also competed in the 800m and crossed the finish line at 2:19.04.

On the men's side, Jacob Miller qualified for the 400m finals with a time of 47.15 seconds, the seventh fastest in the prelims. Geneseo rounded out the day in the men's 3000m Steeplechase, where Pierce Young and Emerson Comer both earned First-Team All-American honors by placing seventh, and eighth, respectively. Young crossed the finish line in 9:00.10, while Comer was right behind in 9:01.09.

The Knights will turn their attention towards the final day of competition, where they will take on the men's 1500m (1:35 p.m. CST), men's 400m (2:20 p.m. CST), women's 800m (2:50 p.m. CST), men's 800m (3 p.m. CST), men's 400m hurdles (3:25 p.m. CST), men's 5000m (4:25 p.m. CST), and the men's 4x400 relay (5 p.m. CST).

DAY ONE RECAP - The Knights turned in multiple impressive performances, but opened the day with Mackenzie Kubat competing in the heptathlon. Kubat opened up her day in the 100m hurdles, finishing seventh at 14.74 seconds. The sophomore then followed it up in the high jump with a personal best height of 1.65m, tying for the best height of the competition, earning 795 points. Kubat continued to set personal bests, throwing 10.44m in the shot put for 558 points. She finished the day in the 200m, where she placed ninth at 25.94 seconds for another 802 points, solidifying her spot in fifth overall through the first four events.

Ryan Hagan kicked off the track events by cruising to a first place finish in the 1500m prelims, posting a time of 3:46.18, as he will turn his attention towards the finals on Saturday at 1:35 p.m. CST. Sam Belmont kept the momentum going for Geneseo, racing to a personal best time of 52.33 seconds, the sixth best time of the prelims as he will head for the finals on Saturday at 3:25 p.m. CST.

Greylynn Guyer and Ann Brennan competed in the 3000m Steeplechase, and finished with times of 10:36.99 and 10:56.48, nearly missing out on qualifying for finals. On the men's side, both Emerson Comer and Pierce Young qualified in the Steeplechase, with Comer placing fourth overall at 8:59.47 and Young at ninth at 8:59.64. Comer and Young will have a quick turnaround, competing in the finals tomorrow at 6 p.m. CST.

The men's 4x400 relay team of Arjun Ojha, Andrew Kent, Giancarlo Di Fava, and Sam Belmont capped off the day by winning their heat, crossing the finish line with a time of 3:10.43, sending them to the finals on Saturday 5 p.m. CST.
