ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo men's track and field team put up an impressive performance at day one of the Empire 8 Championship Meet, as the Knights sit in first place with 104 points, leading second place Brockport by 27 points.
The Knights were dominant in the 3000m Steeplechase, led by
Pierce Young who set a meet record with a time of 8:58.96. Following Young were five teammates who placed in the top-eight,
Emerson Comer,
Collin Brown,
James Tette,
Sean Verbosky, and
Max Schnittman, totaling 32 points for Geneseo. The momentum continued in the 400m, where the Knights added another 32 points to their score.
Jacob Miller,
Andrew Kent,
Arjun Ojha, and
Giancarlo Di Fava swept the top four spots, respectively. Miller posted a time of 47.81, while Belmont joined them in the top eight by placing sixth to round out the impressive showing. The team of
Brandon Yanguas,
Cayden Robleno,
Patrick Klehr, and
Ryan Hagan took third overall in the 4x800 with a time of 7:58.51 for six more points.
Mike Taranto led the pack of Knights in the 10,000m with a time of 31:20.14 in second place, while
Kole Owens,
Drew Cox, and
Jack Hicks joined him in the top eight.
In the field events,
David Lang took fourth in the long jump at 6.92m, while
Trey Feirman also added five points by taking fourth in the pole vault at 4.54m.
Jayden Carroll took eighth in the hammer throw at 48.41m, and Lang tacked on four more points in the javelin at 41.84m to round out the field events.
