Six Student-Athletes Earn Honors From The Empire 8 And UCHC

GENESEO, N.Y. - The Empire 8 and UCHC announced their weekly honors on Monday afternoon, and SUNY Geneseo had six student-athletes take home honors. Josh Garelle was named the Athlete of the Week for men's basketball, Jacob Torgner earned Goaltender of the Week from the Empire while Danny Bagnole picked up Rookie of the Week honors from the UCHC, Ryan Hagan brought home Men's Track Athlete of the Week, while Sierra Doody and Lauren Jaklitsch rounded out the honors as Women's Track and Field Athletes of the Week.

Garelle was dominant for the Knights, averaging 22.5 points, 10.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game, while shooting 67 percent from the floor in two crucial Empire 8 wins this weekend to secure a home playoff game. In the Knights 75-57 win over Utica Friday, he posted a double-double with 23 points and 13 rebounds to go along with six assists and three steals. He shot 11-of-18 from the field while adding six assists and three steals. Garelle followed it up the next day against SUNY Poly by dropping 22 points on 9-12 shooting with eight rebounds. It is his second E8 weekly honor of the season.

Torgner helped lead Geneseo to two wins and five massive points against No. 6 Utica, making 66 saves on 72 shots against one of the highest scoring offenses in the country. He stopped 32 shots in Friday's 5-3 win at Utica which snapped the Pioneers' 11-game winning streak and made 34 more saves in a 4-3 overtime win Saturday. It is Torgner's fifth E8 weekly honor of 2025-26.

Bagnole tallied two goals on Saturday including the game-winning goal 2:30 into overtime to lift the Knights to a 4-3 win over No. 6 Utica. He also scored 12:50 into the first period to give Geneseo a 2-0 lead. 

Hagan set a new program record in the mile at the Boston University Valentine's Invite, posting a time of 4:02.39, which also marks the fourth fastest time in Division III this season, the 13th fastest in DIII history, and a new Empire 8 record. Additionally, he competed in the Distance Medley Relay where the Knights set an Empire 8 record with a time of 9:53.37, which is also the fifth fastest in program history. It is Hagan's third E8 weekly honor of 2025-26.

Doody competed in the 800-meter run at Boston University and placed 14th at 2:08.82, which marked a new program and conference record, as well as 16th fastest time in DIII history. She also ran in the 4x400-meter relay and finished in 12th place at 3:49.8, marking the fourth fastest time in program history. It is Doody's second E8 weekly honor of 2025-26.

Jaklitsch set a program record in the weight throw with a distance of 18.71 meters at the Nazareth DIII Elite Meet over the weekend, which also marks an Empire 8 Conference Record and the fourth best in DIII this season. She also competed in the shotput and finished third with a toss of 12.02 meters. It is her second straight E8 weekly honor.
