Julie Decker Named Geneseo Women's Lacrosse Head Coach

GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo Director of Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation Dani Drews has announced Julie Decker as the Knights' Women's Lacrosse Head Coach. Decker becomes Geneseo's seventh head coach in program history, succeeding Marykate Edmunds who spent the past four years leading the Knights.

"We are thrilled to add Coach Decker to our family at Geneseo," said Drews. "Julie has excellent women's lacrosse experience at the Division III level from being a standout student-athlete at Brockport, to launching the Plattsburgh program and leading Alfred the past three years. We are excited to see the impact she will have on the academic and athletic success of our student-athletes, and our Geneseo community."

Decker joins the Knights after leading Alfred the past three years, where she led the Saxons to one of their best seasons in recent history in 2025. With Decker at the helm, Alfred tied the program record for consecutive wins last year with five, and recorded top-five single season program marks in goals scored (156), assists (64), points (220), ground balls (333), draw controls (185) and caused turnovers (208). She coached Amelia Booth to Second-Team All-Empire 8 honors, as Booth also holds program records in career goals (202), points (253), draw controls (409), as well as single-season draw controls (131) and single-game draw controls (20).

"I am honored to be named the next Head Women's Lacrosse Coach at Geneseo!" said Decker. "I spent two years here as an assistant when I was fresh out of college and, since then, have had a deep respect for the school's spirited, driven, and inclusive community and culture of excellence. I feel my coaching philosophy and goals align with the team's and am excited to get started. I want to thank Dani Drews, Drew Bezek, the search committee, and everyone else involved for giving me the opportunity to come back and coach this team. Let's Go Knights!"

Prior to Alfred, Decker launched the Plattsburgh women's lacrosse program, joining the department in 2017 before beginning their inaugural season in 2019. In the 2020 season, Decker and the Cardinals opened up 4-0 before the COVID-19 pandemic canceled the remaining contests, then in 2021 she led the team to the programs' first conference wins. Decker also coached at Fort Lewis College in Colorado, where she recorded a 26-18 overall record and was selected to coach the 2016 IWLCA North-South Senior All-Star Game.

Decker received her Bachelors Degree from Brockport in 2008, and then earned her Masters in Athletic Administration in 2012. On the lacrosse team, she finished her career with 141 goals, 63 assists, 204 points, 104 draw controls, and 72 ground balls. Her career with the Golden Eagles was highlighted during her junior campaign, where she led the team in goals (49) and draw controls (36), and finished second on the team in points with 73.
