Women's Lacrosse Falls At St. John Fisher In Empire 8 Championship Game

ROCHESTER, NY - The SUNY Geneseo Women's Lacrosse team fell in the Empire 8 Lacrosse Championship on Saturday afternoon against St. John Fisher University, 13-6.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Knights struck first, with Alaina Reina scoring the first goal of the game at 11:51 off a free position shot. Fisher came back and scored three before Dany Emler notched a second for Geneseo, but the Knights faced a 4-2 deficit going to the second quarter.
  • Geneseo battled back in the second quarter and was able to tie the game at five, after Emler found Sophie Lyko in front of the goal with 49 seconds left to play before halftime. Unfortunately, the Cardinals were able to regain some momentum, scoring before halftime to take a 6-5 lead.
  • Fisher took control of the game in the third quarter, with Geneseo's only goal of the half coming from Reina. The Knights fought hard, but were unable to make the comeback, falling to the Cardinals 13-6. 

QUICK FACTS:
  • Reina tallied her eighth hat trick of the season, and totaled 42 goals this year. 
  • Rosemary Mahoney led the team in ground balls with four, while Grace Geary led in caused turnovers at two.
  • Emily DeJohn and Teagan Culhane combined for all 60 minutes in goal, with DeJohn leading the way at four saves.
