Box Score PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo men's basketball team got back in the win column on Friday night in dramatic fashion as junior guard Harrison Dignan broke a tie game with 16 seconds left to lift the Knights over Plattsburgh, 65-62.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Graduate guard Terrance Nichols got off to a hot start for Geneseo as he scored the first eight points of the game for the Knights in the opening 90 seconds. The Cardinals quickly adjusted and climbed back into the game, but did not take a lead until 3:30 remaining in the first half.
- Down 32-29 with three minutes remaining, Nichols stepped up once again for Geneseo and tied the game at 32. Sophomore guard Cole Kattan capped off the half by draining a three with under a minute remaining to give Geneseo a two-point halftime lead.
- The Knights held a slim lead for the majority of the second half, but a couple of free throws from Plattsburgh tied the game with 1:26 on the clock. After Geneseo drew an offensive foul with 46 seconds left, Dignan went down on the ensuing possession and drained a step-back three with 16 seconds on the clock. The Cardinals got two looks at tying the game, but the Knights defense held on for the win.
QUICK FACTS
- Senior forward Michael Gannon led Geneseo with 19 points, while Nichols and Kattan both chipped in double-digit performances with 13 and 11, respectively.
- Dignan tallied double-digit assists for the sixth-time this season by leading Geneseo with 10.
- The Knights win improved the team to 8-7 in SUNYAC play, which moves them to fifth in the standings.
