Box Score GENESEO, N.Y. – SUNY Geneseo first-year guard Sebastian Pacheco scored a career-high 13 points off the bench, but it wasn't enough to propel the Knights past Buffalo State as the squad fell, 67-66, to the Bengals on Tuesday at Schrader Gymnasium.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Buffalo State jumped out to a 10-5 lead in the first three minutes, but the Knights gained the lead with 11:20 to play in the first half as first-year guard Sebastian Pacheco finished a driving layup to make it 14-12.
- The Bengals tied the game on their next offensive possession, but junior guard Raymond Grabowski drilled a three to spark a 13-2 Geneseo run, giving the Knights a 27-16 lead with 3:04 to play in the half. Buffalo State scored six-straight points to close the frame and the teams went into halftime with Geneseo leading, 27-22.
- Buffalo State opened the second half with a 13-5 run to regain the lead, 35-32, with 16:18 to play but a technical foul on the Bengals spurred a 9-1 run, giving the Knights a 50-46 lead with 11:09 to go.
- The Bengals stormed back with a 16-5 run that put them ahead by seven points with 4:31 to play. Geneseo drew to within one point with 1.7 seconds to play but Buffalo State walked away with the 67-66 victory.
QUICK FACTS
- The Knights set a program record by going 19-for-19 from the foul line, the highest free throw shooting percentage in a single-game in program history (minimum 15 attempts). Pacheco led the way going 7-for-7 from the charity stripe.
- First-year guard Tim Giblin and sophomore guard Cole Kattan each finished with 11 points while senior forward Michael Gannon was held to nine points, snapping a 31-game double-digit scoring streak, dating back to the 2019-2020 season.
- Buffalo State outrebounded Geneseo, 43-34, and scored 42 points in the paint while holding the Knights to 31.7% (20-for-63) shooting from the floor, Geneseo's lowest shooting percentage at home this season.
