Box Score 3 BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo women's tennis team traveled to Binghamton, N.Y. on Thursday to take on three State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) matches in three days. The Knights earned a massive victory over Plattsburgh, 5-4, on Friday to clinch a SUNYAC Tournament berth in the spring.Â
NEW PALTZ 9, GENESEO 0
On Thursday, October 6 the Knights took on New Paltz, and couldn't come out with the victory as they fell 9-0.
Alex Galle and
Kylie Seiler came up short at first doubles, falling 8-5, while
Katie Kujawa and
Julia Kimmel fell at second doubles, 8-1. In singles action, Galle battled to a 7-5, 6-3 defeat, while Seiler dropped second singles 6-4, 6-4. At third singles,
Julia Paolino came up short in first-set tiebreaker and fell by a score of 7-6, 6-2. Kujawa and Kimmel dropped their matches at fourth and fifth singles, respectively.
GENESEO 5, PLATTSBURGH 4
On Friday, October 7 the Knights pulled out a big 5-4 victory over Plattsburgh to improve to 4-3 in SUNYAC action. Geneseo opened up the morning match by earning two doubles points. Galle and Seiler earned a clutch 8-6 victory at first doubles, while
Abigail Rockwood and Paolino cruised to an 8-3 win at second doubles. Geneseo continued to lean on the top of their lineup as they moved into singles play. Galle, Seiler, and Rockwood all earned dominant victories at first, second, and third singles, respectively, to help clinch the match for Geneseo. Kujawa nearly pulled off a comeback victory at fifth singles, winning the second set 7-6 (3), but fell in the third-set supertiebreaker.Â
ONEONTA 6, GENESEO 3
Geneseo battled Oneonta in its Binghamton finale, falling to the Red Dragons, 6-3, on Saturday at Binghamton Tennis Complex.
Alex Galle and
Kylie Seiler paired at first doubles to earn an 8-6 victory, but the Knights trailed, 2-1, entering singles play. In the singles match,
Alex Galle earned her second win of the day with a three-set victory at the top flight.
Julia Paolino added a win at fourth singles, but the Knights fell short, dropping four out of six singles matches.Â
Geneseo caps its fall season at 4-5 overall, including a 4-3 mark in SUNYAC play. Friday's victory over Plattsburgh helped the Knights to clinch a SUNYAC Tournament berth, securing the fourth seed for the tournament which will occur the final weekend of April. The Knights will resume play in the spring.Â
