Box Score GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo men's basketball team came up short in search of their fifth-straight win on Monday afternoon as they fell to Hamilton, 76-65.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Knights faced an early 7-0 deficit to start the game, but quickly found their rhythm on offense and cut the Continentals lead to one point at 9-8 after a three from graduate guard Terrance Nichols. A few minutes later, Geneseo took its first lead of the game at 14-12 following a made jump shot from senior forward Michael Gannon.
- Trailing 26-19 as the first half came to a close, Geneseo looked towards Gannon as he drained back-to-back threes to bring the Knights back. Hamilton got the final say before halftime as they made a basket with 1:30 left to play to take a 30-28 advantage into the locker rooms.
- The Continentals came out of halftime applying the pressure defensively and went on to take a double-digit lead five minutes into the action. Geneseo trailed by as many as 18 points in the second half, but battled back late in the period to cut the lead to single-digits. Geneseo was unable to complete the comeback attempt after a couple clutch shots from Hamilton and went on to fall by a score of 76-65.
QUICK FACTS
- Gannon led all scorers in the game with 24 points, shooting 10-21 from the field. The Smithtown, NY native went on to record a double-double, posting 10 rebounds.
- Nichols and junior forward Raymond Grabowski reached double-digits with 17 and 10 points, respectively, while junior guard Harrison Dignan recorded a team-high seven assists.
- Both teams tallied 43 rebounds and 14 assists, but the Continentals earned an advantage from behind the arc, shooting 41.7 percent compared to 26.9 from Geneseo.
WHAT'S NEXT
Geneseo will return to SUNYAC action this weekend and will hope to remain undefeated with games against New Paltz and Oneonta on Jan. 7 and 8, respectively.
