Box Score GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo men's basketball team used an 18-0 run in the second half to erase a large second half lead by Potsdam, but ultimately couldn't close out the game and fell 59-56.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Knights found themselves facing a double-digit deficit just seven minutes into the action, as the Bears jumped ahead 19-8 early on behind some strong shooting.
- A three from junior forward Raymond Grabowski with five minutes left in the first half brought Geneseo within four points at 26-22, and then two minutes later a steal and layup from junior guard Harrison Dignan made it a one possession game. However, the Bears quickly answered and regained the momentum with a nine-point lead heading to halftime.
- The Knights struggled to cut into Potsdam's lead for most of the second half, and ended up trailing by 17 points at 53-36 with 10 minutes left to play. Geneseo's defense then stepped up in a big way and didn't allow Potsdam to score for the next eight minutes. The Knights went on an 18-0 run that was capped off by a corner jump shot from graduate guard Terrance Nichols, which gave them a 54-53 lead.
- Potsdam was able to close out the game behind a few big free throws and clutch offensive rebounding to keep the ball away from the Knights offense. The three-point win improved the Bears record to 7-3 in SUNYAC play, while dropping Geneseo to 6-5.
