Box Score 2 ROCHESTER, NY - The SUNY Geneseo women's volleyball team picked up its fourth-consecutive win in their opening match of the Nazareth Invitational with a sweep of the Golden Flyers, but then fell in their final match to Juniata.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Knights never trailed in the opening set against Nazareth, first-year middle blocker Madison Gamberg helped get the offense going early with two kills in the first six points.
- Another kill from Gamberg put Geneseo up 18-10 in the first set and the Knights went on to trade points the rest of the way for a 25-17 victory.
- The second set saw more back-and-forth action early on as Nazareth led 8-7 at one point, but the Knights answered back quickly as first-year setter Jenna Garvey went on a four-point serving run to give the Knights a 12-8 advantage.
- A kill from sophomore opposite Julia Wallace solidified the 25-21 second-set victory.
- The third set saw more dominant action early on from the Knights as they quickly jumped ahead 6-1.
- The Golden Flyers made a late comeback attempt in third set by winning nine of 13 points after trailing 19-11, but Geneseo was ultimately able to fend them off for a 25-20 win.
- Against Juniata, the Knights struggled to break through offensively as they hit -.021 in the three-set loss.
- Junior defensive specialist Emily Haber led the defensive effort with 12 digs.
QUICK FACTS
- The win over Nazareth marked Geneseo's (5-6) fourth-straight victory since a loss on Sep. 11 to Scranton.
- Gamberg led the offensive attack against the Golden Flyers by hitting an impressive .444 with nine kills on 18 swings. Gamberg also recorded three aces.
- Juniata entered the weekend event ranked 14th in the AVCA poll. The eagles swept the Nazareth Invitational.
