GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo senior Matthew Sayre opened the day with a pair of back-to-back wins in the 10,000 and the 1,500 as the Knights took first place in the Geneseo Early Season Invitational at Alumni Track on Saturday afternoon.
Sayre finished the 1,500 in 4:06.81 to take first and was one of seven Knights to cross within 0.24 seconds of each other to win the 10,000 (33:18.53). Sophomore John Goldzser took first place in the 400 and anchored the Knights' winning 4x400 relay while Jason Rappazzo took first in the 200. Alec Andrews grabbed first place in the 800 while his younger brother Nicky Andrews finished first in the 5000. Lance Jensen added a first place finish in the 400 hurdles as the Knights earned first in eight events on the day.
Geneseo will return to action on Friday, April 9 in the first day of the Big Tree Invitational, also hosted at Alumni Track, with events beginning at 2:00 p.m.
