BROCKPORT, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo men's track and field team captured its first Empire 8 Championship on Saturday afternoon, scoring 303.5 points, while Brockport finished second at 199.5. This marks the Knights seventh-straight conference title, and 12th overall.
Emerson Comer was named the Track Athlete of the Meet, and
Jacob Miller earned the Torchbearer Award for highest cumulative GPA at the Championship Meet.
DAY TWO RECAP:
The team of Â
Trey Feirman,
Andrew Kent,
Jack Towns, and
Jackson Burton opened up the track events in the 4x100 with a first place finish and time of 41.92, beating out second place by .03 seconds. In the 1500m, Geneseo took seven of the top eight spots, with
Ryan Hagan leading the way by posting a meet and facility record time of 3:49.78.
Brendan Style kept the winning ways going in the 110m hurdles with a first place finish at 14.87 seconds, while
Jackson Gloskey and
Cory Jarvis also took top-five. Geneseo picked up 27 points in the 800m, with
Matthew Sheehan taking first at 1:52.16.
Jacob Miller added another 10 points for Geneseo in the 200m at 21.85, while
Jack Towns and
Andrew Kent also placed in the top eight. The Knights swept the top three spots in the 5000m, with
Emerson Comer in first place, recording a meet and facility record time of 14:28.20. The team ofÂ
Arjun Ojha,
Dawson Wadsworth,
Jacob Miller, and
Matthew Sheehan closed out the track events in the 4x400 relay with a meet and facility record time of 3:15.29.
Daniel Pagan and
Jonathan McNamara added 13 points for Geneseo in the decathlon by placing second and fifth, respectively.
Paul Hayes took second in the discus with a distance of 40.23m, while
Raymond Trottier took second in shot put at 15.35m.
Sean Stewart and
Chris Desiderio rounded out the field events by taking third and fourth, respectively, in the triple jump.
DAY ONE RECAP:
Geneseo dominated the 10,000m race, nearly sweeping the top-eight spots by scoring 34 points.
Micah McCulley,
Justin Thang, and
Mike Taranto finished in the top three, with McCulley in first at 32:45.73. Geneseo added 24 more points to their total in the 3,000m steeplechase, with
Emerson Comer setting a new meet and facility record in first place at 9:04.73. The Knights continued to dominate the track events and set records along the way, with
Jacob Miller recording a new meet and facility record in the 400m at 47.24 seconds, while
Arjun Ojha took third. Rounding out the track events was the team ofÂ
Dawson Wadsworth,
Connor Hitt,
Ryan Hagan, and
Matthew Sheehan in the 4x800 in third place at 8:02.08.
In the field events,
David Lang added four points for the Knights in the javelin, and then another two points in the long jump in seventh place.
Trey Feirman rounded out the competition by tying for fifth in the javelin.
